Brochure Text:

President's Message

Exporting makes good business sense, and Toyota is committed through our Export Office Program to providing assistance in introducing U.S.-made goods to potential buyers in Japan.

Because consumer demand for new products (especially imported goods) continues to grow in Japan, we think that now may be the best time for you to consider exporting your product.

Let us show you how to introduce and market your product in Japan. We welcome all interested companies to submit their products for our review.

We look forward to becoming your export link to Japan!

Sincerely,

Yukiyasu Togo
President
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

Who We Are
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS, USA) is the headquarters for Toyota's U.S. operations involving the sale, distribution and marketing of Toyota vehicles. Each year the TMS, USA Export Office reviews many products from U.S. manufacturers of successful consumer and industrial goods, and attempts to locate suitable buyers in Japan.

What We've Done
Since its inception in 1985, the TMS, USA Export Office has introduced a wide range of consumer and industrial products from U.S. manufacturers to Japanese consumers such as California wines, automotive floor mats, sporting
goods, gypsum wallboard, high-impact safety mirrors, marine equipment, and residential carpeting.

What We Can Do For You
The TMS, USA Export Office's objective is to match U.S. manufacturers of top-quality consumer and industrial products with Japanese buyers. We accomplish this through our relationships with Japanese importers, trading
companies, and wholesalers.

Our experienced staff can recommend a strategy to market your product in Japan by first helping you to locate a customer and assisting you in product development to suit the Japanese market.

After locating a customer, we can continue to provide the following kinds of support:

[]  Help you understand import regulations and prepare export documentation
[]  Arrange appropriate shipping and transportation to meet your needs
[]  Provide assistance with registering trademarks and patents in Japan

Depending on your company's needs, we may refer you directly to a Japanese buyer or we may offer to take a more active partnership role in representing your product in Japan.

Why Export To Japan?
With the highest per capita income and the second largest consumer economy in the world, the Japanese market presents exceptional opportunities to U.S. manufacturers. Japan is the second largest market in the world for U.S. exports after Canada. In 1990, the average Japanese consumer purchased $394 worth of American goods. This was $34 more than the average American purchased of Japanese goods.

Per Capita Consumption of Imported Goods (1990)
Japanese consumption of U.S. goods                  $394
American consumption of Japanese goods        $360

With the gradual acceptance of the 5-day work week in Japan, the increasing leisure time has created a demand for more consumer products. Young, single, salaried employees have used their growing disposable incomes to travel abroad, leading to a heightened awareness of foreign products. These changes mean that your product will be entering an increasingly consumer-oriented market.

Recently the Japanese government introduced efforts to further stimulate the growing demand for imports, including incentives for importers and the elimination of many tariffs. This trend can only lead to further opportunities for U.S. manufacturers to export to Japan.

How To Contact Us
We welcome all interested U.S. manufacturers to inquire about exploring export possibilities.
